Cricket Update

This term Ladybarn School cricket season begin with a competition at Parrswood High School in what was a gorgeous sunny day, the perfect cricket playing conditions.  The team was made up of a mix of very talented children ranging from year 2 to year 6.  For the first game of the tournament the children played against Moor Allerton.  Moor Allerton opened the batting, but right from the get go Ladybarn dictated the pace of the match with some excellent bowling which Moor Allerton soon overwhelmed taking 6 wickets in the 8 overs.  After which Ladybarn had their turn to bat. Opening the batting was one of the schools talented Y2 children.  Being bowled at by year 6 children didn't phase the young star, having found the boundary a number of times in their over.  This set the pace for the rest of the batsmen with some excellent batting all around.  Ladybarn cruised to a comfortable victory.

The second match of the tournament Ladybarn faced stiffer competition from Chapel Street Primary school.  This time Ladybarn opened the batting and felt the force of the Chapel Street Primary experienced bowling line up. The team had a number of outs which left them a tall tally to chase when it came to their to turn bowling. It proved to big too big a margin to make up for the team but they gave it their best effort.

For the last game of the comp the children played against Acasias Primary School. The children got off to a great start making the boundary on multiple occasions in the first few overs, however in the final overs the team lost a number of wickets.  This proved costly as when it came to Acacias Primary's turn to bowl they made and passed Ladybarn's total in the final over.

The team have shown great potential for the up and coming season.

Newall Green Girls Football League

Last night saw the 3rd leg of the Newall Green girls football league take place.  So far the girls have been at the top of the table unbeaten, so a lot of the other teams were out try and knock our girls off the top spot.
Their first game was against Newall Green. The girls got off to a great start, applying pressure to Newall Green straight away.  It wasn't long before they caved in to the pressure from Ladybarn's attack. Showing some great attacking football the girls finished the game with a 3-0 victory.
In the second game the girls faced Northenden. Again Ladybarn started with a full on attack, but Northenden showed their toughness with great defending.  Then in the later stages of the game Northenden conceded a free kick 25 yards out from their goal.  This was the key moment when Ladybarn's Captain stepped up to take the free kick and struck an unstoppable missile into the top right corner of the goa, giving Ladybarn the 1-0 victory.
In the final game of the day the girls played Benchill.  This was a very tight fought game with end to end action.  It was the first that Ladybarn really had to do any real defending.  Nonetheless the girls did not allow this to change their attacking game plan and in the late stages of the game the girls broke the deadlock to win the game 1 - 0.
The day was a great success with outstanding performances all round by Ladybarn girls.  Ladybarn remain unbeaten all season in this league and top of the league table!!

Girls Football Update

Wednesday 22nd March saw the girls football team play their last game of the Burnage League season.  For the fixture they played Green End Primary in a local derby.

Both teams would not have an easy game going by the weather as it had been pouring with rain.  Nonetheless the girls did not let this put them off.  The first half saw the girls take on a lot of pressure from Green Ends attack.  The girls held out as long as they could and had a few opportunities on the counter attack.  Unfortunately Green End eventually broke down our defence and scored the first goal, after which followed 2 more before the half was over.

In the second half the girls didn't lose hope and came out ready to give it their best shot of making the game difficult for Green End.   They started the half in full on attack mode which caught Green End off guard.  This change of tact led to our first goal of the match.  Green End then changed their tactics but the girls really showed true heart, never giving up despite the constant onslaught. Though the girls eventually lost the game, they left the pitch with their heads lifted high knowing they gave their best effort regardless of the score line.
