Sky Live Event for Sports Leaders

Our Sports Leaders had the opportunity to attend an exciting event which will help them develop their leadership and sport skills. They went to the Armitage centre along with children from other schools to take part in lots of different sports related sessions such as sport based activity sessions delivered by Athlete Mentors, volunteers from Sky and Young Leader Mentors, a healthy living session (where children learnt about healthy food choices based around the Change4Life programme) and also a session where an Athlete Mentor shared their sporting journey with the students.

The leaders learnt how to develop key life skills including:-

  • Mental toughness - never giving up/facing a challenge/think you can
  • Hunger to achieve - trying your very best/being determined/want to do it
  • People skills - working in a team/working together/talking to each other
  • Sports/Life knowledge - right and wrong/good and bad/knowing the rules
  • Planning for success - thinking how to do something/working things out
  • Breaking barriers - trying new things/trying harder/doing something different/doing something first

Our sports leaders now feel ready to go and help other children in our school become better at sports!

Football Tournament - Silver Medal Winners

On the 14th July our football team took part in a tournament at Manchester United's training ground.  They boys did amazingly well. They smashed the group stages by winning four out of their five games. One game they won 9-0 which was amazing!

They won the semi final 2-0 but unfortunately they lost the final 1-0. What a shame! We can see how disappointed the boys are in their photo - they really wanted to win!  Ms Hampson said that they had a great day and she could see how far they have come on just this year alone, all their hard work in football training has really paid off.

Well done boys - Silver Medal winners!

National School Sports Week

Next week Ladybarn will be celebrating National School Sport Week and we will be taking part in a range of different activities to help promote sport, encourage healthy lifestyles and get children moving as much as possible.

Road to Rio!

This year the Olympics will take place in Rio, Brazil. To help get the children thinking about the Olympics as well as encouraging them to take part in as much physical activity as possible, we will be taking part in the Road to Rio challenge. The challenge encourages children to virtually travel the distance to Rio by logging physical activity.

Sport taster sessions!

We want to encourage children to find a sport they love and so next week we will be putting on different taster sessions of different activities for children to try. On Tuesday morning EYFS will be doing a dance workshop. On Wednesday morning KS1 will have gymnastic sessions led by one of Beth Tweddle’s Olympic coaches. On Wednesday morning year 6 will take part in BMX taster sessions. One Monday and Wednesday afternoon year 5 will take part in squash sessions led by England squash. And, last but not least, year 3 and 4 will try their hand at baseball on Thursday!

Wake Up, Shake up!

Every morning from 8.40-8.50 we will have a special Wake Up, Shake up session taking place in the playground outside. Children and parents are invited to come along to follow a simple exercise routine which will energise us ready for the day!

Run a daily mile!

Every day children will have 10 minutes to try and run for a mile… or more! Each class has a 10 minute slot to see how many times they can run around the playground. Can the children get better as the week goes on?

Sports Day

Sports Day will be on Friday and you are invited to come along to watch your child compete. This will take place on the field.

KS2- 9.15am- 10.45am

KS1- 10.45am- 12.00pm
