Tennis Coaching

Below are some photos of the reception tennis coaching session we had last week with the Northern Tennis club. The children loved taking part in the session which helped them to develop basic movements and hand-eye coordination. They were able to play the games and practise their skills again this week in the FS playground.

Girls Football

At Ladybarn every lunchtime this week the girls' football team, along with our sports coaches, are helping to get more and more girls involved in playing football. They are doing skills practise and playing games. Have we got any future Lionesses at Ladybarn?!?

Kingsway Community Trust Olympics

24 of our best athletes from KS2 were selected to take part at the athletics track at the Etihad Stadium. There were a series of different track and field events in which our children competed against the children from Green End. In the morning the children took part in a speed bounce competition, standing long jump, shot putt and howser throw. We went outside in the afternoon to take part in a 60m sprint race, a 400m middle distance race and a whole year group relay race. Finally we ended the day with a run around the indoor track, which was interesting as the track slopes up at the side to help with speed running.
All children competed well and set fantastic examples of great behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day. The winners are below. Well done to all the children who took part. Ladybarn were the overall winners on the day with an amazing 37 gold medals for first places. A fantastic result!

Move Festival at Manchester United

On Monday 10 children from reception were invited to attend the Move festival at old Trafford. All reception children had taken part in multi skills training during the spring term and had lots of fun playing different games to improve their skills.

It was a great opportunity for our children to demonstrate their sporting ability by playing lots of games along with children from different schools. As well as the multi skills, the children had a tour of the stadium, went into the  players dressing room and even got to try on the players' shirts! Will these children be playing for Man Utd one day in the future?! Watch this space!!

Sports Week!

Sports week at Ladybarn was a great success! The children were challenged to complete 5 hours of physical activity over the week. They had a special booklet to record how much activity they had done. To help them, there were different opportunities, such as a Wake up, Shake up every morning, challenges at playtime and lunchtime (such as score a penalty past Mr Caldwell!) and even physical activity during normal lesson time!

Sports day was at the end of the week and all the children (and staff!) worked hard to complete traditional events such as three legged race, sack race and egg and spoon race, along with new events such as the howser throw, long jump and obstacle course.

Well done to all that took part! Special mention has to go to year 1 as every children completed all parts of the sports week challenge!

Sports Update

The years 5 and 6 played in the Manchester City Football Club Competition which was held at the all new Etihad Campus. It included all the best teams from across Manchester. Ladybarn were put into a very strong group and showed moments of brilliant football that caught the eyes and applause of spectators. Unfortunately the children didn't make it out the group phase of the competition but they played hard and had an amazing time playing football in the state or art facilities.

Years 5 and 6 also participated in the Manchester Citywide Basketball competition. The team qualified out of their group but were knocked out in the quarter finals in a tight fought game.

Year 4 and 5 children took part in the Citywide Swimming Gala at the Wythenshawe Forum swimming centre.  They narrowly missed out on getting a medal but had a fun day trying.

Basketball League

Ladybarn Y4/5/6 boys and girls are competing in an inter-schools basketball league competition held at Burnage Media School.  This gives the squad great preparation for the Manchester Citywide competition that will be held later this month.
